These FAQs provide a brief overview of CSA Shares, addressing common questions and helping potential customers understand the key aspects of participating in a CSA program.
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Members invest in the success of local farms while ensuring access to fresh, sustainably grown food.
Each week members take home a box of fresh seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs, as well as a small bouquet of seasonal flowers (as available). Everything in the share is restoratively grown right here on the Olmec Agro-Tech (OAT) Farm by youth, interns, volunteers and staff, without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Members may also receive a weekly e-newsletter (coming soon to your inbox) covering what’s in the produce box, farm happenings, recipes, Olmec Agro-Tech (OAT) updates, special youth writings and special garden events in and around Tacoma.
A portion of what folks pay for their share goes to subsidize the produce that we send home and prepare with youth in our Olmec Agro-Tech (OAT) Garden School program each week, as well as the food that we send to.
The youth in our Olmec Agro-Tech (OAT) Garden School Farm Program will spend class time learning how to plant and tend to the farm throughout the year, harvest for the CSA and markets, work the onsite farm stand, and are responsible for the high quality of the produce. Member support enables low-income and disengaged youth to bring the fruits of their labor home, reducing strain on the family budget and providing healthy food for their families.
You can choose to donate your refund and to support our food education non-profit by donating all or part of your refund, and receive a tax deduction! All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. We will provide you with a donation thank-you letter with our Tax ID for your records. And the children who participate in and benefit from this educational program will be most grateful!
You are welcome to split a share with someone, however, share-splitting is the responsibility of the member who signed up for the share; we do not manage the splitting of shares. This includes payment: the Primary Member listed on an account is responsible for all payments – do not divide the cost and pay half/have your share-splitter pay half. You pay us for everything and have your share-splitter reimburse you for their half. DO make sure your share-splitter knows our Pick-up Protocol and Policies, and add them to our community email list so they can receive their own copy of our email announcements!
This little micro CSA produces BIG food! it is the most beautiful presentation I have ever received. Thomas' early crops are delicious and since he includes herbs and flowers you can create your own bouquet at home that anyone would be proud to have on the table. I highly recommend Olmec Agro - Tech. I drive 25 miles one way to pick up and find it is completely worth it.
Fruits and veggies are a little pricier compared to supermarkets. But I really don’t mind because my weekly basket is full of fresh organic produce. Not to mention they are delicious raw in my daily smoothie. Highly recommended!
Sign up for Olmec Agro-Tech Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and get your weekly share of fresh farm vegetables, herbs, and fruit ready for pick up point near you!
